I am constantly learning new teaching strategies. Here are a few that I use in class: note-taking handouts, warm-ups, exit tickets, reflections, Rosetta Stone, skits, create charts, peer tutoring, maps, group work, paragraph shrinks, websites, text jumbles, videos, movies, index card and post-it note games, intrapersonal planning and list-making, guest speakers, collages, station teaching, writing essays, create songs, fill-in lyrics sheets, dialogues, presentations, portfolios, drawing, student-created assessments, and worksheets. I try to visit other classrooms for new ideas. Our principal requires this at least three times a year. It is also nice to go to world language professional development to find out the favorite teaching strategies of other language teachers. Professional learning communities (PLCs) are also helpful to discuss best practices.
I asked my students to elaborate on their favorite strategies I use in class. The attached pages explain my use of these strategies.
