At the end of French 1 my students create a portfolio of almost every skill they learn throughout the year. The portfolio is a creative way to demonstrate the full scope of learning for the year. The students basically create their own textbook to be graded and then keep it as a memory book. Below is a rubric for the French 1 portfolio/scrapbook.
French Language Portfolio
1. 8 famous French people: Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, Louis Pasteur, Edith Piaf, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Coco Chanel, Jacques Cousteau, Frederic Chopin (draw or find picture and describe briefly) 10 points
2. 100 important vocabulary words – list in French and English, use the vocabulary sheets we’ve studied or our French textbook 15 points
3. 10 French foods: croissants, crepes, cassoulet, ratatouille, French onion soup, éclairs, madeleines, macarons, steak-frites, escargot, baguette, crème brulée (draw or find picture and describe briefly) 5 points
4. 5 French artists (briefly explain their life and famous works of art): Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Jacque-Louis David, Eugene Delacroix 5 points
5. 12 Paris monuments (draw pictures and explain) : Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, Opera House (Palais Garnier), Champs-Elysees, Les Invalides, Sainte Chapelle, La Conciergerie, Pompidou Center, Palace of Versailles 15 points
